China or Bust

Wow. So Mark and I have been traveling for two weeks and despite some net bar stops this is my first chance to give an substantive update. Well, sort of substantive.

Currently in Guilin we have already been to Chengdu to see the pandas, Emei Shan to see the summit and the monkeys and to Leshan to see the big buddha. From there we traveled to Panzhihua to catch an 8 hour bus to Lijiang. We met a couple of cool Israelis and hung out with them for a couple of days before bypassing Dali, (we aren’t stoners), and heading to rainy Kunming for an overnight before catching a 2230 train to Guilin. We heard from several sources that it was a twelve hour trip but after arriving in Guilin 28, (twenty-eight), hours later we were a bit knackered. It was 3am so rather than get a hotel we went to a net bar and rather than blog we played games. We are trying to do better.

Along the way we have met wonderful people, both foreign and domestic, and generally had a great time while avoiding any trouble. This trip has done many things to reaffirm my love of China as well as solidify my desire to remain in Sichuan. I am excited about what the future holds. Good stuff.

We spent a couple of days in Santai when he first arrived and that coupled with the general Chinese hospitality he has seen the country that I have grown to love. If you were to judge a country on its children, China would do very well. They are lovely.

I hope to come back and fill this out with some detail of our journey but for now check out Mark’s blog and take a peek at my flickr where he is scabbing space rather than getting his own.
